#102 Be there in Person when the Yankees win the World Series

#102 is probably one of the toughest items to complete on my list because a lot of it is out of my control. The Yankees have to not only make it to the World Series, but I actually have to be present and figure out which game they would clinch with. The last time they were in the playoffs was in 2007 and that ended in disaster. As fate would have it the stars aligned and Game 6 which is the 3rd Yankee Home game on November 4th 2009 was when I accomplished this goal.

The Yankees after missing the playoffs for the first time in 13 years in 2008, decided to go out and sign some big free agents to fix the weaknesses in their lineup. They went ahead and signed CC Sabathia, and AJ Burnett to solidify their pitching rotation, and Mark Texeira ,a big power bat ,to help Alex Rodriguez on offense and his gold glove to provide superb defense at first base. The 3 Free Agent signings costs the Yankess more than 400 million dollars over the life span of their contracts. They were ultimately Worth Every Penny. The Yankees went on to win 103 Games and had 51 come from behind wins, that’s a lot of Pie in the face thrown.

After a magical season the Yankees went on a tear in the post season most notably Alex Rodriguez who shed his “unclutch” persona and was a man possessed. Single handedly changing the outcome of games with a swing of his bat. I was able to get Game 2 ALDS tickets against the Minnesota Twins. I went with 5 of my best buddies to witness what turned out to be a historical game that will surely be played on Yankee Classics TV over and over again.

The Yankees then went on to beat the Angels in the American League Championship series and earned their berth into the World Series. It became a tough fought battle with two of the best teams to reach the world series, the Phillies and the Yankees, with equal lineups matching firepower on offense, and enough pitching on both sides, except for one key weapon, we had the Sandman, Mariano Rivera, the greatest closer in the history of baseball. It came to Game 6 at Home, and that is when I decided no matter what I must go to this game. I just knew this was the game they would clinch. Call it a hunch, or gut feeling, or just plain lucky. But this would be one of those days where the stars aligned and everything played out and I  fulfilled goal #102 on my List.
